The tradition of dressing up in a costume for Halloween began with the Celts over 2000 years ago, with a festival known as Samhain. This is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. The Celts would disguise themselves among the dead in animal skins. October 31st for the Celts was considered the boundary between the living and the dead. The Samhain festival involved slaughtering livestock and throwing their bones into the bonfires. Costumes and masks were worn on the day, now known as Halloween in attempt to rid evil spirits.Dressing up for Halloween is a fun tradition. Costumes have evolved from the animal skins that the Celts used. Costumes are worn by children and adults, from funny to scary. The traditional themes which have always been popular are witches, ghost, vampires, werewolves and clowns. Many costumes follow movie and TV themes. Here are my picks of scary Halloween costumes, movies and t-shirts
