Dr Sun Yat-sen was one of the most famous people in 20th century Chinese history. Disillusioned with the ruling feudal Qing dynasty monarchy, he inspired their overthrow through the Wuchang uprising, even though he was touring the USA at the time.His Nationalist movement formed the Republic of China on 1st January, 1912 CE. Rejected by the west, he turned to the USSR for legitimacy and financial support. After the Chinese Communist Party was formed in 1921, his Kuomintang (Nationalist) party joined forces with them to fight against provincial governors, turned warlord, who had lost their Qing monarchy patronage. He died in 1925 from liver cancer.
