The fascination of the Titanic and its tragic maiden voyage reached its peak as the 100th anniversary of the sinking came and went in April 2012.
Australian billionaire Clive Palmer decided to capitalize on that wave of interest by announcing his plans to have a Chinese shipyard build a working replica of the ill-fated ocean liner, retrofitted with modern technology and safety features.
Although the ship is in the early planning stages and lives only on paper for the moment, progress is being made as the scheduled late 2016 maiden voyage approaches. The ship will recreate the unfinished trip of the White Star Line's original Titanic from England to New York.
